The metal plate is made of aluminum foil, which is treated by special processes, and its surface is therefore hydrophilic. The separator is usually made of paper or pressboard. The electrolyte is a mixture of sulfuric acid and water. The electrolyte in the tank forms a dipole between the two electrodes.
