Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors――UPZ2W180MPD Application Field and Working Principle
Aluminum electrolytic capacitors (AECs) are widely used in a variety of electrical and electronic equipment where significant amounts of stored energy are needed. Upz2W180MPD is one of them and manufactured by Wurth Electronics, a major supplier of electronic capacitors. This series of capacitor is dedicated to applications that require high capacitance values in a small package size. Objects of its application include solar PV systems, electronic ballasts, and DC/DC converters. In the above applications, this capacitor provides the energy ripple current, hold-up capacitance, along with low ESR and negligible ESL. It also has better temperature performance and long life. The working principle of the Upz2W180MPD capacitor is based on electrolytic capacitors. Electrolytic capacitors are constructed with a dielectric layer of anodized aluminum that allows an electric current to flow between the electrodes. The dielectric layer is formed when the anodized aluminum is immersed in an electrolyte, which is a salty solution. When the current reaches maximum, the capacitor\'s energy is fully charged.
