Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors are devices which store electrical energy in the form of an electric field generated between two conductors from which the energy is taken or injected. They are composed of a dielectric material such as aluminum oxide which separates two conductors, usually aluminum foil. The oxide layer itself acts as the dielectric and provides the electrolytic capacitor with higher volumetric efficiency than other capacitors.When a voltage is applied, the oxide layer becomes polarized and creates an electric field in the capacitor, enabling it to quickly store electrical energy. The aluminum core acts as the positive plate; the oxide layer as the dielectric; and the negative plate is typically an aluminum foil. Due to its much higher specific capacitance, the electrolytic capacitor is able to store greater energy than standard capacitors.
