The distance between the two aluminum foils determines the capacitance, and the dielectric layer determines the amount of energy stored in the capacitor. When a voltage is applied to the capacitor, a voltage potential is established between the two aluminum foils, allowing a current to flow from one aluminum strip to the other. This current flow creates an electric field within the aluminum foil strips, which creates the energy storage field in the capacitor.
