Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are a type of capacitor that is widely used in power electronics and other industries due to their large capacity, excellent ability to withstand high voltages and favourable cost. The UVR2E221MRA is a radial leaded, non-polarized aluminum electrolytic capacitor featuring a long life and ripple current capability. This capacitor is utilized in voltage multiplier circuitry, audio crossovers, power supplies and inverters to name a few.

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, in general, are composed of an aluminum foil and aluminum oxide dielectric material that is wrapped in a non-conductive sleeve. The anode end consists of the aluminum foil which has the connecting lead attached. The cathode is the aluminum oxide layer that lines the walls of the sleeve. The two ends are separated by the electrolyte, which acts as an insulator while also maintaining the integrity of the oxide layer. The oxide layer’s job is to store the electrons, allowing for a potential difference within the capacitor.

The UVR2E221MRA is a modern electrolytic capacitor designed to operate up to a 25Vdc. Its capacitor range is between 220uF to 1000uF, and its rated ripple current is 240mA.
