Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, generally referred to as electrolytics, are the most common type of capacitor commonly used in electronic equipment. These are polar devices, meaning they have a positive and negative terminal, and they generally have a large capacitance relative to their physical size.

UVZ2W100MHD is one of the aluminum electrolytic capacitors. This capacitor, housed in an axial 4 x 3mm size package, provides an electrolyte dielectric reliability and useful life of between 3000 and 6000 hours with rated voltage of 16Vdc. It also utilizes solid electrolyte and offers superior moisture resistance, low profile and high ripple current capacity.

The application field of UVZ2W100MHD aluminum electrolytic capacitor is particularly suited for applications where high ripple currents and long life are required, such as within DC/DC converters, NVMs & microprocessors. Moreover, this capacitor also has the potential for use in industrial systems, automotive systems, home appliances and in other noisy power control systems.

The working principle of the UVZ2W100MHD aluminum electrolytic capacitor is based on the constraint of ions in an anodic solvent by an insoluble material. It features a liquid electrolyte that is soaked into the porous dielectric material, consisting of a positive anode, a negative cathode, and a dielectric in between. When a voltage is applied between the two electrodes, ions of the electrolyte will be attracted to the cathode, the opposite-most electrode. This forms an electrical charge stored on the dielectric material, which is based on the distance and polarity between the electrodes.

The UVZ2W100MHD capacitor also utilizes a conductive electrolyte, gaining the benefits of both surface and electrolytic capacitors. This capacitor offers higher capacitance than ceramic capacitors, yet it has higher leakage current than other electrolytic capacitors. Essentially, this capacitor combines the features of two types of capacitors into a single device.
