Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors
Aluminum electrolytic capacitors (also known as electrolytic capacitors and abbreviated as ELECs) are components that use electrical energy to store electrical charge and are distinguished by their ability to hold much larger charges than traditional capacitors. They are composed of two aluminum foils, that form collectively a \'can\', and a dielectric between them. The can or container is often made of aluminum, usually with a ‘tall-oil’ impregnated paper, based on phenolic resin or some other non-conductive material, as the dielectric. This in itself forms the capacitor. The terminals at the base of the capacitor have an external connection, allowing the energy to pass through the capacitance.
