TVS diode (Transient Voltage Suppressor) is a voltage-dependent device, used to protect sensitive electronic components from voltage transients such as lightning and electrostatic discharge (ESD) events. The V68ZC10P device is a high voltage transient voltage suppressor (TVS) designed for applications which require protection against ESD and lightning transients.
The V68ZC10P comprises of silicon avalanche junction diodes, connected in series-parallel combinations, encapsulated in a disc-type package which has a peak clamping voltage of 18V. This device is ideally suited for applications such as telecommunications, industrial control systems and automotive electronics.
The V68ZC10P can be used to protect sensitive components against the damaging effects of lightning, electrostatic charge, and other high-voltage transient events. The device is designed to provide a high surge-handling capability without causing arc/flashover, withstanding up to 40KV of ESD and 2KV of lightning. The device is capable of handling one-time ESD pulses up to the maximum ratings.
The working principle of the V68ZC10P is based on the avalanche breakdown theory. The breakdown voltage is the voltage at which electrons in the device are accelerated, generating a large number of additional electrons in a rapid avalanche or chain reaction. When a high voltage transient enters the device, the voltage is conducted to the diode junction, and the avalanche breakdown occurs. This process enables the device to clamp the voltage and limit its value to the breakdown voltage of the device.
The V68ZC10P features low leakage current at all operating voltages, excellent surge suppression characteristics, and an extended ESD pulse pulse width (750μs). In addition, the device offers excellent protection from high transient voltages and maintains its clamping characteristics throughout its safe operating area.
The device is also designed to withstand high voltage overshoot situations, such as those caused by capacitive coupling. In these situations, the device will clamp the voltage to a safe level, thus protecting downstream components from potential damage.
