Application Field

The VDRS-60-12 is a self-excited switching mode AC/DC converter designed for off-line, fixed operating frequency range, non-isolated dc-dc conversion applications. It is capable of operating from an input voltage of 85V-264V (up to 350V for peak voltage applications) and it can handle a maximum output of 12V. Due to its low service temperature range (0°C-60°C), it is mainly used for consumer electronics, computers, networking, security, medical, lighting, telecommunication, automotive and industrial control equipment.

Working Principle

The VDRS-60-12 is a self-excited AC/DC converter which means that the oscillator and driver are integrated into the same package. It utilizes a unique half-bridge topology which comprises of an inductor and two MOSFET\'s switches. When the input voltage is applied, the switches turn on and begin to alternate the current flow from the Source to the Drain to charge the output inductor. This process continues until the inductor is fully charged and the output voltage reaches a regulated level.

When the inductor\'s charge begins to decrease, the driver will switch off the existing bridge and switch on the other one. This allows for the current to start circulating back in the opposite direction. With each switching, the voltage waves are generated on the output side. This process repeats continuously, resulting in a steady flow of power from the input to the output side. The output signal is regulated by using the regulation, a feedback loop and a reference voltage to adjust the switching frequency.
