VEML6075-SB is a 6x6-mm far-infrared 2-way digital ambient light sensor integrated into Analog Devices Inc. ADI is a leader in energy-efficient sensing solutions for consumer and business electronics, offering the broadest portfolio of smart sensing technologies. The family of VEML6075-SB far-infrared sensors is suited for applications including consumer electronic, automotive, industrial, and medical.

The VEML6075-SB is a high-performance, low-power, two-way (left and right) digital ambient light sensor with an integrated Level-Shift. It has the ability to measure visible and near-infrared light and convert it to digital signals for further processing. This device has a calibrated on-board memory, which stores the relevant data for fast, accurate, and repeatable readings and helps in extending the battery life of an application.

The VEML6075-SB is an ideal choice for applications such as display backlighting control, ambient light sensing, directional lighting, facial recognition, gesture control, and occupancy/proximity detection. Additionally, it integrates infrared compensation functions, critical for operations in bright sunlight, and short delays between successive readings providing for higher sampling rates. This device is available in a wide range of operating voltages, from 1.7V to 3.6V, and supports multiple communication protocols, such as I ² C, SPI, and UART.

One sensor faces directly up to measure the incident sunlight and the other a few degrees off the vertical axis, which provides a glimpse of the scattered sky light. Both sensors detect the amount of sunlight and the near-infrared wavelengths associated with sunlight. The wide dynamic range combined with digital accuracy enables precise and repeatable lighting control from indoor to outdoor applications.
