VEML6075 Application Field and Working Principle
VEML6075 is an optical sensor developed by Vishay, which is specially designed to measure ambient light, infrared (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) light intensity. It is a good choice to measure the irradiance of sunlight and other environmental illumination. VEML6075 is a CMOS on-chip integration technology, allowing the IC to measure ultra-high light intensity up to 188.5klux (a unit of illumination).Application Field of VEML6075
VEML6075 can be used in a variety of applications, such as detecting daylight, controlling the backlight of displays, preventing users from looking directly at the sun, and measuring the solar power efficiency. In terms of daylight detection, the light intensity of the VEML6075 can be used to figure out the weather condition and the time of day. The IC can also be used in the medical fields, such as measuring UV exposure from the sun to prevent skin cancer caused by UV radiation. It is also suitable for agricultural applications, in which the amount of sunshine is critical for a successful crop.In the display system, VEML6075 can be used to detect the intensity of light around the device, and then adjust the display brightness for greater clarity and reduce power consumption. As it is able to detect IR and UV light, the device can provide more accurate control than traditional light sensor. It can also be used in car headlights automatization systems, to aid drivers in safe driving while dark.Working Principle of VEML6075
The VEML6075 consists of two light sensing elements, one designed to measure infrared and ultraviolet radiation (UV ALS), and the other to measure ambient light (ALS Light Sensor). The light sensor measures the optical energy of visible light and infrared in the wavelength range from 180nm to 1000nm.The UV ALS consists of an ultraviolet photodiode and a band-pass filter, which detects the UV energy in the range of 280nm to 390nm. It provides excellent visibility and temporal stability in terms of UV radiation detection.The ALS Light Sensor is designed to measure visible light. It features an when the ambient light changes drastically in terms of both brightness and color temperature, the IC is able to quickly identify the change and accurately adjust the displayed brightness.Conclusion
