A VI30100S-E3/4W is a single rectifier diode, a semiconductor device with two terminals that allows flow of current in one direction. This diode is rated for a peak repetitive reverse voltage of 300 V, a forward continuous current of 1 A and an operating junction temperature range of –55 °C to 150 °C.
Application Field
VI30100S-E3/4W rectifiers can be used in various applications including the construction of power supplies, the protection of circuits with motor loads and automotive applications. Working Principle
The VI30100S-E3/4W diode is a polarized device operating based on the principle of ‘Polarization’. It has two electrodes, the anode, and the cathode. The anode is the positive node, and the cathode is the negative node. When the correct voltage is applied such that the anode is made more positive than the cathode in the form of forward bias, current starts to flow through the diode. This is called the ‘Forward Bias’ condition. Under Reverse Bias, the diode acts as an insulator, preventing current to flow from the anode to the cathode. When the diode is in the ’On’ state, it acts as a conductor allowing current to pass from the anode to the cathode. The current-voltage characteristic of the rectifier diode is similar to that of an ideal diode, where the current increases exponentially when the forward bias voltage is greater than the barrier voltage.
VI30100S-E3/4W diodes are primarily used in applications where high reverse voltage capability is required, such as in AC/DC switching power supplies or SCR/thyristor circuits. It can also be used in applications where fast switching response time is required and in high frequency inverters. In general, it is used in applications where a low forward voltage drop, high surge current capability and low reverse leakage current are desired.

They are also fast switching devices with low forward voltage drop and the ability to limit voltage spikes.
