Optoisolators - Triac, SCR OutputThe VO4256H is a very popular optoisolator that provides a low cost solution for efficient electrical isolation needs. It is very widely used in many applications including automotive, telecom, medical, industrial, and many more. This optoisolator has two main features: a triac output and an SCR output. The optoisolator has two high-efficiency LEDs for isolating a control circuit from a power circuit. The two output stages are connected via an optical insulation channel, allowing the optical device to provide an effective electrical barrier across the two circuits, minimizing common mode noise and providing effective, independent response control of both outputs.
The VO4256H optoisolator utilizes an internal MOSFET to achieve high power rates up to 350 mA with a current gain up to 1000. This device also has a low-output voltage drop (300 mV@ 1 mA) and a low-operating current (2 mA). This makes it a great choice for applications that require low-level signal control and fast reaction times, such as power control of lights and other devices.
The VO4256H optoisolator offers two outputs stages for controlling both TRIAC and SCR loads. The TRIAC output stage utilizes a novel Opto-TRIAC (Optically Coupled Triode Thyristor) configuration, providing rapid switching with zero-crossing operation. Whereas the SCR output stage utilizes a single high-efficacy LED in a reverse conduction blocking configuration. This allows a high-efficiency SCR output over a wide range of current.
The VO4256H also offers a variety of protection features to ensure reliable operation in varying environmental conditions. These include thermal shutdown, current limiting, and short-circuit protection. Additionally, it also includes a guard ring dielectric isolated terminal to ensure reliable operation with high operating temperatures and liquid crystal displays (LCDs).
