The isolator has a high response speed and is designed to switch rapidly up to 5kHz. It also has a low minimum on/off times of 1.5µs and maximum off/on times of 5µs.
The working principle of the VO4258D is based on the principle of optical isolation. The isolator consists of an infrared LED and a photo-sensitive triac. Whenever a voltage from the input circuit is applied across the LED, the LED emits light, which then activates the triac. The triac then conducts the electrical current flowing through the output circuit and the cycle continues until the voltage is removed from the LED. The isolator also includes a Zener diode connected to the triac, which avoids electrical sparks due to over-voltage.
