Thyristors are a type of semiconductor switches which are similar to transistors but with significant differences. SCRs or semiconductor controlled rectifiers are a special type of thyristors that are electronically controlled. X0202MA 1BA2 is a two terminal, three layer, thyristor device of the SCR design. This device is most commonly employed for robotic motion control, microprocessor based systems and various industrial applications such as heating and lamp control.

X0202MA 1BA2 SCR includes an anode, cathode and a gate terminal. An anode is defined as an electrode through which continues current enters a device. This is placed at the positive terminal of the device. The cathode is defined as the electrode through which it current flows out of the device and is generally present at the negative terminal. The gate terminal is the terminal through which external control is employed to start the flow of current through the device. This terminal can be connected directly to a switch, or through a switch or any other form of digital logic to control the start and stop of the device.

Structurally, the X0202MA 1BA2 device is composed of a cathode, anode and a depletion layer which is also known as the control region. The control region is filled with a materiel that permits current to move in one direction only according to the polarity. This characteristics allows for precise control of the flow of current and is the basis for the SCRs functioning. When a negative voltage is applied between the anode and cathode, the voltage creates a current that flows from cathode to the anode. The current flow creates an electric field in the control region that opposes and repels current from re-entering the cathode.

When the voltage between the anode and cathode is reversed, the structure of the material and applied field will allow current to flow through the device provided that in response to the gate voltage, the voltage and field measurements are appropriate. Connecting a positive voltage to the gate terminal allows for the reverse current flow through the device, thus allowing for forward control of the device. This gate control process allows for use of SCRs in many applications.

The X0202MA 1BA2 device is able to handle 1A at a standby current of 1A and a peak current limit of 2A at a nominal voltage of 200 volts. This device does not require a cooling process, and is capable of withstanding up to 600V for an extended period of time, leading to its various applications in industrial electronics, robotics and control.

X0202MA 1BA2 SCRs are mostly used in motor control applications wherein they provide control to start, stop and regulate the speed of the motor thus making them ideal for applications in robotic drives. In microcomputer based systems, they are used as a power switch when the system is required to make an on/off command. Apart from these, they are employed in many heating applications such as electric range elements and current regulators.

X0202MA 1BA2 is thus an ideal application for use in industrial electronics, robotics and computer based control systems. It is immune to heat and has a current handling capacity of 2 amperes.
