XC18V04PC44C is a configuration prom used in FPGA design. It is a 256-bit EEPROM device in a plastic dual-in-line (PDIP) and plastic thin shrink small-outline package (PTSSOP). XC18V04PC44C enables E2TTL and master serial interface for configuration of all Xilinx Spartan(TM) FPGA. The total pin count is eight and the temperature range is from -40°C to 85°C. XC18V04PC44C is a non-volatile, low cost, and easy to use memory alternative to conventional EEPROM and E-Flash.
The application field of XC18V04PC44C covers consumer electronics, industrial products, laptops, and many other areas. It enables in-system programming of FPGAs through professional E2TTL or Master Serial Interface long time after all other components are assembled, since it stores the configuration data in Power-On Reset state. This reduces the cost of FPGA design because of it reduces the number of chips needed. Its easy-to-use flash memory technology allows faster, simpler device programming and data management without an external Host Controller.
XC18V04PC44C also provides programmable data rate which is faster than EEPROMs and efficient for faster FPGA configuration. The design engineers can select either synchronous E2TTL interface or master serial interface in a FPGA application. Serial interface can provide data rates up to 6.144Mbps, longer programming time and better availability compared to E2TTL interface. It also provides support for Slave Mode and Parallel Mode programming.
XC18V04PC44C working principle is based on flash memory. It has three major parts, which are the program logic array (PLP), the controller and the memory. The PLP is a 2-D array of memory cells that are linked together to store configuration information. The controller receives commands from the FPGA and stores them into the memory. The memory contains the configuration data that controls how the FPGA behaves. The PLP also stores the control bits for clock modes, such as Sync and Async.
