The XR79115EVB is designed to evaluate the features and performance of the XR79115 integrated buck controller and the CSD19537Q5A power MOSFET in a 8-Pin WDFN package. This evaluation board has all of the components required for the power circuit layout between the XR79115 and the CSD19537Q5Aforacompactdesign.Itsupportsasynchronousmodeofoperation,providinga 7.5V to 28V wide adjustable output voltage range over a 4.5V to 36V input voltage range. The adjustable switching frequency range is from 200kHz to 500kHz, while the current mode control provides fast transient response and excellent line and load regulation.
The XR79115EVB is designed with an extensive protection scheme, including over-voltage protection (OVP), under-voltage lockout (UVLO), internal current limit, and over-temperature shutdown (TSD). It also has 8 discrete low-side and high-side MOSFETs to facilitate designs using very large power levels. There are also tabs for additional cooling to further enhance the thermal performance of the design. Output voltage can be adjusted externally via the onboard potentiometer.

Working Principle of XR79115EVB:
The XR79115EVB is a synchronous buck pulse-width-modulation (PWM) DC/DC converter. This type of converter is capable of regulating a wide range of output voltages from a single input voltage with high efficiency. The converter is controlled by an integrated high-performance buck controller, the XR79115. This controller contains all of the necessary circuitry for the bi-directional drive of the power switch, sensing of the input and output voltages, and the generation of the appropriate pulse-width-modulated (PWM) signal.
The XR79115EVB operates in a synchronous boost topology wherein the inductor, coupled with the pair of low-side and high-side MOSFETs form the main power components of the module. The inductor, also known as a buck inductor, stores a certain amount of energy in its magnetic field, depending on the rate of current and the size of the core. When the low-side and high-side MOSFETs are switched, the stored energy is transferred to the load. The inductor, when fully charged, prevents the output voltage from rising beyond the programmed maximum value. At the same time, it prevents the output voltage from dropping lower than the programmed minimum value.
At low load conditions, the device goes into a non-pulse-skipping state to maintain fast transient response. In this state, the two MOSFETs are turned ON during every switching cycle. In comparison, when the load current is higher, the device goes into a pulse-skipping state to achieve high efficiency at light load conditions. During this stage, the device skips some switching cycles, preventing excessive currents from flowing into the inductor, thereby reducing switching losses.
The XR79115 includes an integrated soft-start circuitry for smooth startup and low output noise. It also has protection features, such as over-voltage protection (OVP), under-voltage lockout (UVLO), internal current limit, and over-temperature shutdown (TSD). The adjustable switching frequency range is from 200kHz to 500kHz, allowing designers to optimize design performance and size.
