The Z0402MF0AA2 is a high-performance and high-reliability silicon bidirectionalcontrolled high-power four-quadrant triode thyristor (TRIAC) module. It isdesigned to the international standard package of TO-220AB and the pins areisolated from the aluminum baseplate.
The Z0402MF0AA2 application field is mainly used for industrial control, incircuit switching, motor control, temperature lighting control and otherapplications. For example, it is used for controlling lighting in households toprovide dimming capabilities or for air conditioners, electric oven, refrigerators,electrical heating, hot water container, etc.
The working principle of the Z0402MF0AA2 is based on the mutual transistor effect.The thyristor is a three-terminal solid-state semiconductor device, which worksas a bilateral switch, triggered by a voltage at its main gate and stays in byproviding a sustained load current. The load current is limited only bycircuit’s R-L impedance peak value.
When the gate voltage exceeds a certain level, the Load Current starts to flow andtherefore the thyristor is triggered on. When the gate voltage is larger than thegate recurrence voltage, the thyristor is triggered off. During normal operation,the thyristor gate current can be rapidly switched off, by reducing the gate voltageto the gate recurrence voltage.
The Z0402MF0AA2 has several features that make it advantageous for certainapplications. It has a high surge current; it has low forward voltage drop, andexcellent reverse voltage withstand capability. The low forward voltage drop meansthat less energy is lost during the switch with the resulting reduction in temperatureof the switch as well as reduced operating costs.
The Z0402MF0AA2 has excellent switching properties with a fast turn-on and shortswitching time. It is also highly reliable and consumes low power. Additionally,it is able to work at high frequencies and is low-noise and highly compact sothere is less wiring complexity.
