ZMM5229B-7 application field and working principle

Working Principle:

ZMM5229B-7 works as a normal diode at normal voltage and works as a Zener diode when the voltage exceeds the Zener voltage. As the Zener breakdown voltage is low, it protects circuit from low-voltage over-voltage conditions.

In normal condition, the normal diode function is activated which allows the current to flow from the anode to the cathode. As the voltage increases, the diode works just like an ordinary diode, resulting an exponential increase in the current. Once the voltage exceeds the Zener voltage, the Zener diode function is activated, which keeps the current flowing in the same direction and results in a small current that remains almost constant no matter how much the voltage increases.

Furthermore, when the voltage drops back to below the Zener voltage, the Zener diode will continue to keep the current flowing. However, the current value will become very small, allowing the diode to protect the circuit from voltage changes.
