Use the cascade method to extends the count length of counter

The cascade method extends the count length when the count length ( module ) of the counter is not enough, it can be extended in a cascaded manner, and the total count length after cascading is at all levels product of Counter Count Length. Because most of the integrated counters have carry output and hold function control, the cascaded mode of the integrated counter is generally asynchronous and synchronous.

 

( 1 ) Asynchronous cascade connects the clock pulse signal to the clock pulse input terminal of the lowest bit counter, and the carry pulse of the low counter ( decrement count is the borrow pulse ) the output is used as a clock signal for a high level counter. In this way, it is necessary to note that the pulse of the carry pulse ( or borrow pulse ) of the lower counter is the positive pulse ( the original variable ) or the negative pulse ( inverse variable ), in the real carry ( or borrow ), the edge of the jump is the rising edge or the falling edge, which is the same as the effective edge of the clock pulse of the high counter, if it is the same, the carry ( or borrow ) output of the low counter can be directly connected to the clock input terminal of the high position counter; if on the contrary, the carry ( or borrow ) output signal of the low position counter is passed through the non-gate ( inverter ) and then connected to the clock input terminal of the high position counter.

 

( 2 ) Synchronous cascading connects the clock input terminals of each integrated counter together, and simultaneously connects the clock pulse signal to decrease the carry pulse of the low counter the count is a borrow pulse. The output is used as the holding function control signal of the high position counter, so that the high position counter counts the clock pulse when the low position counter generates carry . This method also needs to pay attention to the low counter output carry pulse ( or borrow pulse ) is the positive pulse or negative pulse, and the high position counter control the input power flat is the same, if not consistent, you need to get through the non-door.
