The specific classification of the ATX power supply.

Generally used terms: "double pipe half bridge", "single pipe forward", "double pipe forward", "active PFC", "passive PFC", "synchronous rectification" and so on.

The three terms “double pipe half bridge”, “single pipe forward excitation” and “double pipe forward excitation” are concepts in the field of switching power supply. “active PFC” and “passive PFC” are concepts in the field of power factor. "synchronous rectification" is a concept in the field of rectification. The three technologies of “active PFC”, “passive PFC” and “synchronous rectification” are technologies for switching power supplies.

In the history of switching power supply (including, but not limited to, ATX power supplies), people have been committed to developing cheaper and more stable switching power supplies. The "two-tube half-bridge" topology of the ATX power supply is currently the cheapest and most mature desktop computer power supply, it still accounts for a lot of low-end ATX power market share. However, with the development of the board card, the AT2 power supply also put forward higher energy conversion requirements. The energy transfer capacity of the "double-tube half-bridge" topology has gradually failed to keep up with the energy consumption of the card. Therefore, ATX power r & d personnel strive to improve the "single-tube forward" and "double-tube forward" topology technology, while ensuring the urgency of its cost control is more reasonable, making it gradually replace the "two-tube half-bridge".

We cannot choose a so-called best ATX power topology from "double-tube half-bridge", "single-tube forward", "double-tube forward". This is actually a false proposition. It needs to be based on actual needs. This is because when choosing the topology of ATX power supply, the two factors of load power consumption and cost should be considered. For small power requirements, the most mature and stable "two-tube half-bridge" topology is a good choice. Only when medium and large power is needed, it is more likely to choose "single-tube forward" or "double-tube forward".
