Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors (AECs) are components that store electrical energy, most commonly used in electronic products and consumer electronic appliances. They are usually composed of layered metal-foil electrodes, separated by an anodized aluminum foil, and filled with electrolyte. The capacitors function as an electrical “safety valve” releasing energy when the discharge current requirements exceed the normal capacity of the device.

The working principle of the 108KXM050M AEC is based on the combination of a dielectric material, two metal-foil electrodes and an electrolyte. When a voltage is applied across the two electrodes, a layer of electrons builds up on the cathode surface, forming an electric field. This electric field then forces the dielectric material to break down, allowing current to flow through the device.
When the current stops flowing, the capacitance of the device returns to its original value. This process of charging and discharging is known as capacitance cycling and is used to store energy in an AEC. The 108KXM050M is designed to withstand frequent charging and discharging cycles, allowing it to store and release large amounts of energy quickly.
