Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are polarized, fixed capacitors with the most electrical capacitance per unit volume of any presently available capacitors. Aluminum electrolytic capacitor construction begins with a three-layer electrochemical system. The anode is an aluminum plate, traditionally formed as a foil, with an oxide layer.
