24C01C/P EEROM (Electrically Erasable Read-Only Memory) is a non-volatile memory device that integrates 1K EEPROM and provides fast address/data accessing to make it suitable for high speed embedded applications. This device is a memory product from NXP’s Atmel family which can store 1024 bytes of data. 24C01C/P uses I2C serial interface which allow multi-master communication in one bus. The working principle is based on the integrated serial EEPROM with unified architecture. The block diagram of 24C01C/P shows its major components which include control logic, register interface, data control logic and data memory array. Control logic enables communication with the external logic through I2C interface and registers. Data memory array is used to store the user data which is split into two sectors, sector 0 and sector 1. Data control logic performs the read/write operation on memory array. The address of the data to be written or read is selected by the register interface. The data to be written to the memory is written to a data buffer register, which is then stored in the memory array by a write operation. On the other hand, data is read from memory and written to the data buffer register before being outputted to the external logic.

Also, 24C01C/P includes a write protection zone (WPZ)where only sector 1 can be write-protected. Write protect zone is used to prevent data from accidental writing by setting the number of the write protected sectors in the configuration word. Furthermore, special protection logic is built in this device architecture to prevent external noise from affecting the operation and disturb output data.

Since 24C01C/P is a small, non-volatile memory device, it is suitable for embedded applications. Its I2C bus architecture enables it to communicate with other microcontrollers and allows access to other memory within the same bus. Moreover, its multi-master communication capability and write protected sector provides a reliable data storage and protection against noise disturbance.
