Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are polarised electrolytic capacitors whose anode electrode is made of a metal oxide layer which forms the oxide layer on an aluminum foil with etched surface. The catalytic metal oxide layer acts as the electrodes’ dielectric layer, while the aluminum foam foil acts as the electrodes’ collector layer. Aluminum electrolytic capacitors have some advantages over conventional film capacitors, such as high capacitance and low equivalent series resistance. They are used in power supplies, high-frequency circuits, high-voltage circuits, noise suppression, field effect transistor gate circuits, etc.
