The inductor is connected across the positive and negative terminals of the capacitor at the same time, so that the electric potential difference between the two plates can be discharged through the inductor. When the voltage source supplies current to the capacitor, an electric field is established in the capacitor which causes a current to pass through the capacitor. This current causes an electric field between the positive and negative plates of the capacitor, thus charging up the capacitor. According to Faraday’s law, when the amount of current flowing through the capacitor varies, it will cause the magnetic field to change and the induced electromotive force will change accordingly. The resulting electromotive force is used to charge up the capacitor, and when the voltage on the capacitor reaches a certain level, the current in the capacitor will be interrupted, thus forming a stable charged state. In this way, the capacitance of the aluminum electrolytic capacitor is realized.
