Working PrincipleBridge rectifiers are four-terminal devices and operate on the principle of four diodes connected in the shape of a bridge, which permits current to flow only in one direction, thus producing a unidirectional supply, which is DC.Rectification is created when two diodes facing each other and one of them has current flow through it and the other diode prevents reverse current flow. This is known as half wave rectification. The bridge rectifier is an improved version of the half wave rectifier, capable of converting the incoming AC into DC efficiently.In a bridge rectifier, four diodes are arranged in the shape of a bridge, as the name suggests. The current is divided into two equal branches, each having two diodes which are in antiparallel connection with each other, such that one diode allows current flow while the other prevents reverse current flow.The AC voltage applied across the diode bridge is then “clipped” and full-wave rectified DC voltage is produced. It has both the positive and negative half cycles of the input signal, hence referred to as full-wave rectification.
