Working Principle

The working principle of 381EL331M160H022 aluminum electrolytic capacitor is similar to that of other electrolytic capacitors. It consists of two metal electrodes (anode and cathode) separated by an anion-permeable dielectric membrane. The anode is rolled up with the dielectric membrane into a cylindrical shape, and it is also impregnated with an electrolyte and sealed into a cylindrical aluminum shell. A ceramic capacitor is usually inserted into the center of the cylinder, providing a barrier capacitance. When voltage is applied to the capacitor, a voltage is generated on the dielectric membrane that allows anions to move to the other side of the membrane. These anions accumulate in layers, forming a double-layer capacitor with very low resistance and large capacitance.

This aluminum electrolytic capacitor has a unique feature, called the “self-recovery” effect. When the capacitor is overcharged and ruptured, the recovery of the broken membrane is completed within five minutes due to the restored charge balance.
