TVS - Diodes

The 5KP40CA-G Thyristor Surge Suppressor (hereinafter referred to as 5KP40CA-G) is a type of transient voltage suppressor diode (TVS-diode). It is designed to protect electronic components and systems from high-energy electrical transients (electrical surges).

Application Field

The 5KP40CA-G is used in applications that require a reliable level of protection against high-energy electrical transients (electrical surges). Its application fields include automotive, medical, industrial and consumer electronics, where components or systems are typically exposed to high-energy electrical transients. The 5KP40CA-G is also often used for the protection of power supplies, data/signal lines and I/O ports on various electronic devices.

Working Principle

The 5KP40CA-G works by providing an extremely low impedance path for the high-energy electrical transients. It works in two directions: first, it clamps the voltage rises to a safe level; second, it absorbs energy and dissipates it as heat. When an electrical transient occurs, the 5KP40CA-G will reduce the voltage until it is clamped at a safe level, and then absorb and dissipate the energy.

The 5KP40CA-G is designed to operate with a wide range of currents, up to 40A and with a maximum peak pulse power of 10KW. It supports up to 24VDC operating voltage and -55°C to +125°C temperature range, and is UL 1449 recognized. It is available in lead-free versions as well.

The 5KP40CA-G is a robust and reliable solution for protecting electronic components and systems from high-energy electrical transients.
