Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) Diodes are widely used in a variety of electroniccircuits and equipment. TVS devices can be used to protect against transient overvoltage situations, such as electrostatic discharge and many other transient events. 5KP series TVS Diode is particularly designed to protect or clamp transients found in newer, higher speed digital circuits and power supplies.

5KP series TVS Diodes are designed to work from 5V to 150V and features 5KW peak pulse power. These devices are made using soft recovery technology that provides low leakage current. It is designed to protect high-speed circuits from voltage transients and suppress ESD. 5KP TVS diode is suitable for applications such as power supplies, industrial, medical, and consumer products.

The standard 5KP43 device is designed to operate from 5V to 43V. It has three main characteristics: clamping voltage, maximum peak pulse power and breakout voltage. The clamping voltage is the voltage at which the diode begins to conduct, and the maximum peak power indicates the maximum power the diode can handle when there is a transient. The breakout voltage is defined as the voltage at which the TVS diode can conduct at rated power.

The 5KP43 works on the principle of a Zener diode. When a voltage transient occurs, the 5KP43 will conduct current and limit the voltage across its terminals to a predetermined value, thus protecting the circuit. The 5KP43 can operate both in unidirectional and bidirectional applications. When reversed biased, the 5KP43 will clamp reverse voltage by introducing a small forward voltage and current. When a surge is applied, the device will also conduct current to clamp the voltage and protect the circuit.

The 5KP43 is designed for a wide range of applications including communications, telecommunications, data processing, computers, medical equipment, electrical and automotive T&A applications. In automotive applications, 5KP43 devices are used to monitor differential input voltage spikes in automotive electronics such as ABS and ESP systems.

In many applications 5KP43 is soldered directly onto a circuit board. However, for higher power applications, multiple 5KP43 can be stacked together as a heat sinked assembly. This will help reduce the thermal resistance and therefore improve heat dissipation. In higher power applications, air flow might be necessary to ensure that the 5KP43 assembly won\'t overheat during operation.

5KP43 TVS diodes can be used to protect a wide range of circuits and equipment from overvoltage transient events. Their small size and low cost make them especially attractive for designs where the physical space is limited and cost savings are desired. With the soft recovery technology, the 5KP43 can also minimize ESD damage, which is one of the biggest problems in high speed digital circuits.
