The 74HC/HCT563 is a high-speed CMOS 8-BIT latch designed for low-power applications. It is pin and function compatible with the 74LS/ALS563 and 74F566. Working Principle
When a high logic level is applied to the OE/NANDEN input of the 74HC/HCT563, the outputs of the two output halves A,B,C and D are enabled at the levels present at the D, D input pins. Data at the D and D input is then transferred to the A,B,C and D outputs, except when the OE/NANDEN input is LOW. When OE/NANDEN input is LOW both the output halves A,B,C and D are disabled by a High impedance state. Data at the outputs will remain static at the level present before the OE/NANDEN input was activated.
74HC/HCT563 is designed so the output can be enabled in a nand mode operation, to provide TRI-STATE capability to meet certain system design requirements. The TRI-STATE feature operates as follows: when the OE/NANDEN input is held LOW, the outputs are in a HIGH impedance condition regardless of the levels applied to the D and D input pins.
The OE/NANDEN pin also functions as a master reset pin on power-up. When the OE/NANDEN is activated, the data stored in the registers is switched to the output pins, thus performing a power-up reset operation. Upon reset, the data is in undefined state until OE/NANDEN is deactivated and the latch input is valid.
