AD574AKE Application Field and Working Principle
The AD574AKE is an 8-bit Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) consisting of a successive approximation register (SAR), input amplifier, reference/voltage divider and output latch. Working Principle
The AD574AKE operates using the successive approximation technique. It compares the input voltage with successive digital reference voltages held within the ADC. Each reference voltage represents one bit of the result. The process will conclude when all bits are determined.
The process begins with all bits of the result reset to a known state (usually 0). The comparator then compares the input voltage (Vin) to the reference voltage held within the ADC register. If the input voltage is less than the reference voltage, the bit is set to 0. If the input voltage is greater than the reference voltage, the bit is set to 1. This comparison is then repeated for each succeeding bit until the last bit is set.
The AD574AKE has a 3-bit SAR logic circuit that compares the input voltage to the reference voltage and increments (or decrements) the SAR resulting in digital code at the outputs. The SAR also keeps track of the result of the comparison process in digital code. This process continues until all 8 bits are obtained.
