The ADM00352 power supply evaluation board illustrates the use of Texas Instruments’ UCC3822/3/5 controller ICs to achieve high efficiency operation in AC/DC and DC/DC SMPS applications. The ability of these devices to provide a synchronous rectification control allows designers to implement step-down and step-up DC/DC converters with high efficiency and low component count, as well as to realize low standby power AC/DC power supplies.

The ADM00352 board features an on-board UCC3822/3/5 controller IC and a variety of external components (capacitors, diodes, transistors, resistors, etc.) to enable designers to evaluate the performance of the UCC3822/3/5 controller in a variety of power supply applications. The board has been designed to minimize switching losses and switching noise while allowing for rapid testing of AC/DC and DC/DC converter topologies.

The board allows for the evaluation of basic SMPS designs, such as buck converters, forward converters, full bridges and push-pull converters, using the UCC3822/3/5 IC. The board is flexible enough to allow for evaluation of multiple topologies by changing the components on the board. The flexibility of the board also provides designers with the ability to evaluate the performance of their designs using different operating points, which allows for optimization of the efficiency and power level.

The UCC3822/3/5 controller IC used on the board provides a high efficiency operation by allowing synchronous rectification control for both buck and forward converters, as well as for full-bridge topologies.
