The ADM691AARN-REEL is a micropower reset circuit with a low minimum operating current of 25 μA and a supply voltage range of 4.5 V to 18 V. It belongs to the family of PMIC (power management integrated circuits) supervisors. With its tiny size and thermally enhanced R-6 package, the device is ideal for space-restricted applications and provides excellent performance in the most challenging thermal environments.

The ADM691AARN-REEL is designed to guard against loss of control that may occur due to power glitches, brownouts, software problems or EMI/RFI disturbances. It monitors an external circuit such as a microprocessor to detect if it is functioning properly. If the monitored circuit does not continue to meet the specified requirements, the ADM691AARN-REEL will assert a reset signal which re-starts the system. By preventing circuitry from locking up or running erratically, the ADM691AARN-REEL provides a safety net to prevent costly system downtime and eliminate the need for manual intervention.

The ADM691AARN-REEL reset circuit monitors power supply voltage and asserts an active low reset signal to the system when it falls below a typically preset threshold. An internal bias current is used to provide a sensitivity of 10 mV (typical) per lmV (typical). When the power supply voltage returns to a safe level, the reset signal is de-asserted and the system can continue to function normally.

The ADM691AARN-REEL offers additional features, including a power-on reset and a manual reset input. A power-on reset forces the reset signal low anytime the supply voltage is greater than the preset power-on reset threshold. A manual reset input allows the reset signal to be forced low by an external signal source. This feature is useful for debugging purposes or to quickly re-start the system. The device also includes an open-drain reset signal and a power-good output for status monitoring.

The ADM691AARN-REEL monitoring circuit includes an internal reference and comparator which allows for easy adjustment of the reset threshold.
