The AN8002M is a linear voltage regulator device which belongs to PMIC (Power Management ICs) family. It is a three terminal regulator device and comes with a built in voltage limiting, over current, and thermal protection circuit. The output voltage of the device can be adjusted by varying the voltage at the adjust pin. It is capable of providing up to 1A output current and it has built in Schottky power diode to protect the load from inrush currents at start up or while shutting down the device. The device is housed in an SOP-8 package.
Applications
The AN8002M is suitable for wide range of applications where the output voltage needs to be controlled and regulated. The device can be used in powering microcontroller and memory devices, for post regulation in PC motherboard and server, for post regulation in LCD monitor and TV, in a portable applications like laptop and PDA and in battery powered portable equipment. The voltage regulator can also be used in power supplies, in personal computers, as battery charger and for powering audio circuits. The device is also used in various automotive applications such as in lighting and entertainment systems, power isolation and current regulation, and battery charging.
Working Principle
The AN8002M is a linear voltage regulator that produces a regulated output voltage based on a reference voltage. The device has three terminals, where the input voltage is applied to the Input terminal, the ground is connected to the ground terminal and the regulated output voltage is available at the Output terminal. The output voltage can be adjusted by varying the voltage at the adjust pin by connecting a potentiometer or a voltage divider network.
When the device is connected, the output voltage is determined by the reference voltage which is applied to the adjust pin. The device also has a voltage sensing or regulating circuit which monitors the output voltage and amplifies the difference between the output voltage and the reference voltage. This amplified difference is applied to the error amplifier which produces a control signal to adjust the output voltage. The device provides a constant regulated output voltage, and this output voltage is protected from the input voltage variations, over current and over temperature.
The AN8002M is designed for operating at low dropout voltage (LDO) which is about 0.2V to 0.4V at 1A output current. The device also features a shutdown mode, where the output voltage can be put to sleep by controlling the enable pin. The device can be enabled at any voltage above 2V. The device is available in SOP-8 package and is packaged with a built-in thermal pad which dissipates the heat generated by the device.
