The AN8018SA-E1 is an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) designed for DC-DC switch mode power supplies. It incorporates many features, including a voltage regulator, a pulse width modulation (PWM) controller, and a high-speed totem pole output driver. It is a high performance, low cost IC ideal for a wide range of applications, including compact, power restricted systems.The AN8018SA-E1 is primarily used for switching regulation, which reduces power consumption by varying the width of the pulse-width modulation (PWM) signal sent to the power switch. The device uses a high speed totem pole output driver to provide stable, accurate and fast responses to load transients and generates a symmetric and well-shaped PWM waveform. It effectively reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI) by controlling the switching frequency and switching duty cycle.The AN8018SA-E1 is capable of operating with input voltages up to 30V and 15V outputs. The pulse duration is used to adjust power output and is referred to as the duty cycle. The frequency of switching is used to adjust efficiency. The AN8018SA-E1 contains a potentiometer that can be used to adjust the switching threshold, allowing the output voltage to be regulated over a wide input voltage range. The device has a constant frequency (CF) control loop which reduces EMI by preventing potentially damaging oscillations. When the input voltage is within the range of the output voltage, the device operates in the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) mode.
