The APA750-PQ208I is a FPGA designed with embedded system designers in mind.Application/Suitability The APA750-PQ208I is ideally suited for use in applications that require both programmable logic for flexibility and high processing performance, such as communications, industrial control, instrumentation, multimedia and medical applications. It has up to 2,048 logic elements and 176 dedicated multipliers for efficient implementation of digital signal processing algorithms, which makes it suitable for DSP applications like speech, audio and image processing.Advantages The APA750-PQ208I offers several advantages compared to other FPGAs. Its power consumption is 2.8W, significantly lower than competitive products. Its 0.13um process technology, which is optimized for low power applications, further contributes to the reduced power consumption. As it uses 1.8V core voltage, low voltage supply voltages can be used in systems it is installed in, which is beneficial for energy efficiency. The APA750-PQ208I also offers a large capacity CLB, high operating frequency, and up to 33Mb of configuration memory. Working Principle FPGAs like the APA750-PQ208I are composed of two types of components—configurable logic blocks (CLBs) and Input/Output (IO) blocks. The CLBs are composed of multiple types of configurable logic functions, such as AND, OR and XOR gates. The CLBs can be configured and interconnected to a user-programmed design. For example, the user can configure a single CLB to contain two 2 to 1 multiplexer and one inverter. The interconnection between different CLBs can be done using Global Interconnects (GIs). The I/O blocks connect to external circuits, including memories. A number of I/O blocks can be configured as 3-state interfaces or as programmable buffers. The I/O blocks can also support multiple protocols, like LVTTL/LVDS and PCI Express/PCI/PCI-X/XAUI.
