Working Principle

The AT24C512-10UI-2.7 is a two-wire serial EEPROM that utilizes a two-wire serial interface. It operates at a maximum frequency of 400KHz and has a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. It is organized as 512K bits of memory and can be accessed 32 bytes at a time. Each device is equipped with an on-chip 8-bit device address. This allows up to 254 devices to be connected on a single bus.The AT24C512-10UI-2.7 works by storing data in an array of non-volatile Flash cells. Data is written and read serially by an external device such as a microcontroller. Writing to memory is achieved by supplying the appropriate data and write cycles to the device. On other hand, reading from memory is achieved by supplying the appropriate data and read cycles. Data can also be read or written byte-by- byte using the master/slave protocol. In addition to reading and writing data, the AT24C512-10UI-2.7 can be configured to operate in one of two modes – Continuous Read and Burst Read. The Continuous Read mode enables data to be read continuously while the Burst Read mode enables data to be read in blocks of 32 bytes at a time. Data is stored in Flash cells which can be programmed and erased. Programming is achieved by the application of an electrical signal to the Flash cell and requires the application of write cycles. Erase is achieved by applying an electric field and requires the application of erase cycles. The AT24C512-10UI-2.7 is one of the most reliable non-volatile memory solutions currently available.
