The memory array is organized into 32K words of 16 bits each. The device is available in 8-pin mini-DIP (150 mil) and 8-pin SOIC packages. It operates from a single 2.7V supply, consuming only 2 mA in active mode and 20 µA in standby mode. The device features 1 million write/erase cycles and 10-year data retention.

A write operation is initiated by either a write byte or sequential write instructions issued by the bus master. During a write programming sequence, the device automatically goes into the write-protection mode, allowing only the single byte being written to be modified. During this period, no control byte or memory byte can be written. After completion of the programming, the device automatically resumes normal read operations.

The AT24C512W1-10SI-2.7 uses the Write Protect function to prevent unintentional data modification. It is activated by the WP input pin. When the WP pin is activated, the write-protection feature is enabled and the device will only perform read operations.
