Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, also called electrolytic capacitors, are capacitors whose anode is made of a pure aluminum foil covered with an oxide layer. The oxide layer performs as dielectric, while the electrolyte, usually an organic solvent serves the purpose of a second electrode. AVS476M10C12T-F is a type of aluminum electrolytic capacitor and has following application fields and working principles.

Application Field

AVS476M10C12T-F is a vertical type aluminum electrolytic capacitor from the AVS series. The main benefit of this capacitor is that it has strong current rating (6A-20A) in meaningfully small package. The capacitor has superior insulation strength and can be operated under -40°C – +105°C temperature range. The ripple current capacity and capacitance change ratio due to temperature and voltage in this capacitor are very low compared to other series. Also, it has an considerably long service life, ranging from 2000 to 4000HRS.

AVS476M10C12T-F capacitors can be used in various types of electronic and electrical systems, including motor driving, voltage stabilization, lighting, frequency control, conversion power supply, power conditioners, switching power supplies, AC/DC adapters, etc.

Working Principle

The principle of working of AVS476M10C12T-F capacitor can be explained as follows: The aluminum foil of the capacitor serves as the anode, while the electrolyte-coated paper, usually glass fiber or a film insulated by polyester and other carriers, serves as the cathode. The oxide layer on the anode serves as the dielectric. When the capacitor is connected to a circuit, the current flows from cathode to anode.

When current flows, a voltage potential is created between the anode and cathode which results in a charge accumulation on the anode. This causes the oxide layer on the anode to expand due to the charge generated on it. This phenomenon forms a barrier between the anode and cathode which restricts current flow. As a result, the capacitor stores energy by charging up and releasing it later.

The capacitance of the AVS476M10C12T-F capacitor depends on the physical size of the aluminum foil, electrolyte, and the oxide layer. The capacitor also exhibits strong resistance to temperature and voltage, as well as long service life. This makes it ideal for applications in a variety of electronic and electrical systems.
