As AC voltage crosses 0V and starts to rise in the positive direction, the anode potential of the first diode becomes higher than the cathode potential of the second diode. This allows current to flow through the first diode, but not the second.

During the negative half cycle of the AC voltage, the cathode of the first diode becomes higher than the anode of the second diode, allowing current to flow through the second diode, but not the first. This alternating flow of current produces a DC output at the two ends of the BAV20WS.

The BAV20WS RRG can be used in a wide variety of applications in addition to motor control, including AC/DC converters, powering LED lighting systems and battery chargers. In each of these applications, the BAV20WS is able to deliver the required DC voltage, while at the same time offering low forward and reverse voltage drops and a high forward surge current.
