The BQ24091EVM is a highly versatile tool and evaluation board developed by Texas Instruments for their BQ24091 line of devices, which are a series of buck-boost converters designed for USB fast charging applications. The BQ24091EVM is an evaluation kit that provides flexible design options and a wide range of components to aid users in design validation when using the BQ24091 line of devices. The BQ24091EVM works on the principle of a buck-boost converter. The device is based on a multi-mode boost-buck architecture and is designed to take a wide range of input voltage and output current levels. The device uses a low-side N-Channel FET and a high-side P-channel FET as power switches. The FETs are driven by the PWM control logic to implement the buck mode, boost mode, and bypass mode. The buck-boost converter is configured to switch between the buck and boost mode depending on the difference between the input voltage and the output voltage. If the output voltage is higher than the input voltage, the converter switches to the buck mode, and if the output voltage is lower than the input voltage, the converter switches to the boost mode.

In addition, the kit includes protection and regulation circuits to protect the device from over-voltage, over-current, short circuit, and over temperature conditions. The board also includes a low dropout (LDO) regulator circuit for setting the input voltage. Moreover, two resistors are provided for setting the output voltage and the current limit. A user selectable mode select switch is included for changing the board between bypass mode and PWM mode.
