The CD74HCT4351E belongs to the family of integrated circuits known as Analog Switches, Multiplexers, Demultiplexers. This device is a silicon gate CMOS analog switch with decode Logic that uses a pair of a binary address inputs and a chip enable for nineteen single pole single throw switches. All of these switches may be located in one package offering multiple connection configurations which help the user to reduce board complexity. The device has Rail-to-Rail input/output range which is suitable for both low and high level signals.
The device consists of 4 x 4 matrix of switches which are 19 in total and the binary address inputs A0 and A1 along with the chip enable Ee, allows the users to have independent selection of channels. The switches have a low on-resistance of max 250 ohms and a high off-leakage current of maximum 0.1 uA when operated at 5V supply. The switch has a low input capacitance of 2.5 pF and low charge injection of 6 pC. This gives rise to great high-frequency performance up to 3 MHz when the supply voltage is 9V.
The working principle of the CD74HCT4351E is very simple. When the chip enable signal is low, binary address inputs A1 and A0 together with the chip enable signal, Ee, are used to decode the correct channel. This channel will then be multiplexed with the input signal and the output signal appears. The output is a switched version of the input signal. When the Ee signal is high, all switches connected to the device are disabled so no signal passes through.
