How Does it Works?

A Zener diode, also known as a voltage-regulating diode, relies on an unsymmetrical P-N junction configuration that allows electrons to break away from the covalent bonds and move freely in the crystal lattice when brought in reverse bias mode. When the voltage across a Zener diode reaches the breakdown voltage, it will start conducting in the reverse direction allowing current to flow in the opposite direction of the external circuit.
