Gas Discharge Tube Arresters (GDT) are electrical devices used to protect electronics from lightning strikes and overvoltage conditions. Their primary function is to limit the flow of current by providing an electrical path between two points when subjected to high overvoltage conditions. The CG2230L is designed for the protection of telecom and CATV equipment, including power plants, substations, and distribution centers.
The CG2230L series of Gas Discharge Tube Arresters features a compact, low-profile design to ensure that they are easy to install in any environment. The CG2230L is an AC gas discharge arrester with a very low operating voltage (5 kV). It incorporates a patented Dual-Surge absorbing configuration to limit the inrush current during energization and provide protection from ESD, EMI, and other transient overvoltage events. The gas-filled tubes are constructed of a combination of zinc oxide and oxides of gallium and boron.
The working principle of the CG2230L Gas Discharge Tube Arrester is based on the principle of voltage regulation. When the operating voltage exceeds the protection level of the arrester, an electric arc is created in the gas-filled tubes. This arc creates a path for the current to flow, thereby limiting the inrush of harmful overvoltage and providing protection for the connected equipment. The CG2230L is designed to operate within normal system parameters, and has a high voltage limiting capability of up to 5 kV.
The CG2230L employs a patented twin-shunt configuration with controlled leakage current for protection against overvoltage events. This dual-surge absorbing structure also offers additional protection from EMI, ESD, and other transient overvoltage events. This feature ensures that the connected equipment stays protected even when subjected to momentary voltage surges.
