The electrolyte, also known as a solvent, is composed of an acid, water, salt, and other additives. The electrolyte is deposited between two metal plates, or electrodes, to create a junction. At this junction, a chemical reaction occurs, forming an electric double layer known as a dielectric. The electrons within the dielectric form a negative charge inside the capacitor, while the positive ions within the electrolyte form a positive charge.
