The CY223811FXI is a low-power, high-performance clock generator which integrates both clock generation and output buffering at frequencies up to 300MHz. It uses a programmable, low-power Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) architecture to generate a wide range of clock frequencies and provides excellent jitter performance. The CY223811FXI has an on-chip reference oscillator and provides five differential outputs for low-skew, low-jitter clock distribution and three outputs for spread spectrum clock output. The on-chip spread spectrum and frequency dithering capabilities allow the CY223811FXI to deliver high jitter and clock noise attenuation, making it ideal for sophisticated designs.
Application Field
The CY223811FXI is ideal for applications such as image processing, video teleconferencing, data storage applications, and other high-performance data capture applications that require high levels of jitterAttenuation/noise and low-skew clock outputs. In addition, the CY223811FXI has a wide range of features to ensure that the clocks are compliant with all timing specifications. The CY223811FXI also provides an integrated phase-locked loop (PLL) with a ÷2 output that can be used to generate two different frequencies. This feature enables customers to generate the desired frequency even if the reference oscillator is mismatched. The on-chip reference oscillator also allows customers to eliminate any external components required for the clock generation.
Working Principle
The on-chip reference oscillator is used to generate a stable clock signal with low jitter and low phase noise. The reference clock signal is fed into the PLL circuitry, where it is divided by a divide factor to generate a lower frequency. The output of the divider is fed into a phase/frequency detector, which compares the input clock to the output of the PLL. If the two signals are not in phase, the PLL will adjust the output frequency to keep the signals in phase. This process ensures that the output of the PLL is always in phase with the reference clock.
Once the PLL is locked, the output of the PLL is passed through a low-pass filter and is fed back to the phase/frequency detector. The output of the phase/frequency detector is fed into a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO). The VCO is responsible for generating the correct frequency and amplifying the signal to drive the clock outputs. The output of the VCO is fed into a post-divider, which divides the frequency and generates the desired output frequencies. The output of the post-divider is fed into the buffer circuits, which drive the clock outputs. The CY223811FXI clock generator also has selectable spread spectrum and frequency dithering circuits which can be used to reduce the clock jitter and noise for improved performance.
