CY2280PVXC-11S is an integrated clock signal generator and system timing device that is suited for wide range of electronic applications which require timing generation or signal conversion. Power consumption is extremely low, typically 2.25mW. This signal generator needs only single 2.5 to 3.6V supply and contains on-chip oscillator and drivers to generate fully programmable clock, timing control, and data synchronization signals.

CY2280PVXC-11S can generate up to seven clock outputs, depending on the application requirement. All the outputs are derived from the on-chip oscillator, delivering frequencies up to 150MHz (±25ppm). The CY2280PVXC-11S is divided into two sections: A phase-locked loop ( PLL) section and a clock-tree section. In the PLL section, phase detectors reference and feedback signals are used to compare and correct discrepancies between the reference and feedback clocks from an external source.

Communicating with the external source is done through a serial programmable port. This port allows the user to customize the system and control various values including the clock frequency, rise and fall time, duty cycle and skew. These values govern the behavior of the clock outputs from the clock tree section.

Circuit components in the clock tree section increase or decrease rise and fall time of each output to reduce system jitter, making the design more robust and reduces the power consumption. The clock tree topology of CY2280PVXC-11S uses a combinational logic exploiting a series of inverters and buffers to increase the load capacity and compensate for propagation delay in the outputs.
