The DC1544A is an evaluation board designed to evaluate the performance of a variety of off-line, DC/DC and AC/DC switch-mode power supplies (SMPS). The board is a comprehensive solution, designed to be used in a variety of test applications, such as power supply verification and efficiency evaluation. The board contains both primary and secondary side control and protection functions that support single-phase, full- and half-bridge topologies. The DC1544A also provides a test bench for the development of new power supply concepts without the need of purchasing and configuring a lot of different components.

The DC1544A includes a range of features, essentially consisting of a controller IC, an isolation transformer and intelligent MOSFETs. It is set up with inteligent compensation techniques which support optimized open loop operation without significant ringing. This allows for fast and flexible loop compensation and output current and voltage regulation.

As an all-in-one evaluation board, the DC1544A features power rail monitoring, programmable current limit and over voltage protection (OVP) coverage for over-current, open-circuit and short-circuit conditions. Its adaptive dead-time control also eliminates the need for an external dead-time controller. In addition, the DC1544A features input and output voltage measurements and provides robustness and fast transient response.

The DC1544A features two separate outputs and each can be configured independently. They can be set to either of the main power topologies: single-phase, full-bridge or half-bridge. The board can handle peak currents up to 25A and can supply up to 550 Watt at 48V/12W/2.6A. The DC1544A includes an isolation transformer and intelligent isolated MOSFETs for up to 20A operation.

The DC1544A is powered by a single wide range input from 4V to 16V. The output voltage, current limit and OVP levels are adjustable via two RS-232 ports. The board also includes a thermistor for over-temperature protection and a fan controlled by the thermistor for cooling. The board is programmed by a graphical user interface (GUI) that communicates with the DC1544A in real time over the two USB ports.

The DC1544A includes two independently configurable output channels, which can be used in a variety of topologies. The primary function of the board is to act as an evaluation tool for testing power supply concepts and design verification. It can also be used in educational applications to teach about the fundamentals of power supply design and test concepts.
