DC1575A application field and working principleEvaluation and Demonstration Boards and Kits are used to provide rapid development and evaluation of system designs. The DC1575A is an Application Demonstration Board from Infineon Technologies AG that enables the users to evaluate and demonstrate the performance of Infineon IGBT/MOSFET devices. This particular board is designed to demonstrate the operation of an IGBT/MOSFET inverter bridge circuit.The DC1575A inverter bridge circuit is powered by a DC source and used to drive a three phase induction motor in three phase asymmetric PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) operation. The DC1575A comes with a supplied 5A/500V DC power source, a DC-Link snubber, four IGBTs and four MOSFETs. The gate voltage for the IGBTs/MOSFETs can be controlled by the MCU using a PWM signal from the MCU. The MCU reads a position sensor signal which is used to control the initial phase shift of the three phases.The basic working principle of the DC1575A is as follows: the DC-Link capacitor charges up to a nominal DC voltage level Uw, depending on the chosen power supply. Additionally, the MCU generates a PWM signal which is used to control the switching of the IGBTs/MOSFETs. Whenever an IGBT or MOSFET is switched, the current stored in the DC-Link capacitor is discharged into the load. The PWM signal is generated so that the IGBT/MOSFET switches at an exact multiple of the period of the load current. The DC1575A also contains a snubber circuit which is used to reduce the voltage fluctuations of the DC-Link which are caused by the rapid switching of the IGBT/MOSFETs.The DC1575A Application Demonstration Board offers a wide range of applications in two distinct areas. Firstly, it can be used to evaluate the performance of an IGBT/MOSFET inverter bridge circuit. By controlling the IGBT/MOSFET switches with a PWM signal from the MCU, the user can analyze the power conversion characteristics of the inverter circuit and assess the switching losses. Secondly, the DC1575A can serve as a platform to evaluate the thermal performance of the IGBTs/MOSFETs by running the inverter circuit with a higher load. By dissipating heat from the device, the impedance of the DC-Link capacitor can be reduced.
